How to Apply

Applicants to Valley Family Medicine must be graduates of medical schools in the United States or Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association, or graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada who meet one of the following qualifications:

Have a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), or have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. licensing jurisdiction.

Valley Family Medicine participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for the selection of first-year residents. Application materials from qualified candidates must be received via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applicants are encouraged to submit materials early to ensure receipt of their documents and choice of interview date. Failure to meet the guidelines and/or deadline of December 1, 2009, may eliminate a candidate from consideration. The following information is necessary to complete an application:

Personal statement - Express in your personal statement how you feel the training offered at Valley Family Medicine fits your educational goals, as well as your specific interest in obstetrics.

Two letters of recommendation Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from physicians who have directly supervised your care of patients. At least one physician must be from the discipline of family medicine or general internal medicine.

Dean’s letter

USMLE, Step 1 transcript - Applicants are required to have passing scores on each Step taken. COMLEX 1 is accepted in place of the USMLE for osteopathic students. USMLE/COMPLEX scores must be competitive with those applying to our program.

Date of Graduation - Applicants must have graduated from medical training within the last five years, and must be able to demonstrate hands on U.S. clinical experience within 12 months prior to submitting their application. A letter of recommendation from the primary clinical attending is required.

Visas - Valley Family Medicine does not sponsor Visas

After review of application materials, selected candidates are invited for an interview via email. Interview slots fill quickly and are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those candidates selected to interview are invited to attend a dinner the evening prior to their interview day. The dinner is hosted by our residents and is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the program in a casual setting. Available interview dates are:
